- Description
This is Indra, he is the son of Nat who works here at Woodland Nurture. Indra suffers from Lyme disease. He got infected in Scotland when he was 11 years old after a tick hid in his thick hair and was difficult to detect until it was too late. Indra is now 15 and Lyme disease has had an enormous impact on his life affecting his energy levels, his mood and his ability to maintain, with any regularity, his hobbies and clubs. At times, Indra has been bedbound due to severe pain and another time he was unable to remember anything about his life pre-infection.
Lyme disease is a general term for a variety of infections (bacterial and parasitic) which can invade the body via a tick bite. Lyme can affect all systems in the body but often affects the joints, the brain and the central nervous system. Like many chronic illnesses symptoms may appear and then disappear. Pain is the symptom which tends to remain.
Lyme disease unfortunately seems to be on the increase in the U.K. but despite this, diagnosis and treatment remains difficult. This is in part due to lack of awareness and research, and the misconception by medical professionals that all cases come with the “bullseye” rash. As a result of insufficient treatment programmes and diagnoses, there is a huge community of people across the country having to try and find answers themselves using private doctors and practitioners with expertise to try and understand the complexity of symptoms and explore possible treatment options. Recovery from Lyme disease is complex and can require lots of different kinds of expensive treatment which is beyond the scope of the NHS.
Indra requires Oxygen treatment sessions which cost £34 per session. Indra ideally needs two Oxygen treatments a week. The sessions help reduce the symptoms of Lyme disease by enhancing tissue oxygenation, reducing inflammation and modulating oxidative stress. It also creates an environment that is hostile to the bacteria,.
On top of the Oxygen treatment, Nat also needs to raise the money to pay for an initial consultation with a practitioner following the Dr Klinghardt methodology. This consultation will be £400. Klinghardt methodology involves a holistic approach to treating Lyme disease which addresses detoxification, supporting the immune system, emotional trauma, and uses light and neural therapies and biofilm protocols. Following the consultation there will be further appointments to pay for as well.
To support Nat and Indra, the team at Woodland Nurture are holding a fabulous Family Fun Day on Saturday 11th July. All of the proceeds will go towards treatment for Indra.
Join us in the woods for a fabulous afternoon of ancient woodcrafts, den building, fire-lighting, making natural tick repellent, plus our usual provision of treenets, hammocks, swings and zip line. There will be something for all the family!
Very excitingly, we are going to fire up the pizza oven and serve you all some delicious pizza! When you book, make sure that any dietary requirements are mentioned on your registration so we can cater for you!
Not able to come on the 11th? No worries. Any donation no matter how small to our fundraiser would be gratefully received. And do spread the word so we can raise as much money as possible!
